The maple leaf has a timeless quality that lends itself beautifully to artistic representations, especially those that capture the leaf’s symmetrical form and intricate veins in all their natural beauty. That beauty is evident in the many maple portraits brought to life by Senior Engraver Stan Witten throughout his 35-year career, and it certainly shines through in this new, original design that has all the earmarks of a classic.

Design

Designed and sculpted by Senior Engraver Stan Witten, the coin’s reverse features a pleasing arrangement of three sugar maple (Acer saccharum) leaves. Gently overlapping, the leaves are tilted towards the right to convey movement, as though the leaves are falling or have just landed on the ground, while still allowing a clear view of their intricate vein pattern.
